About Irene
Art making has been a constant companion throughout my life—a source of joy, expression, and connection that naturally led me to the field of art therapy. My journey to becoming a board certified art therapist and licensed psychotherapist has been enriched by diverse experiences that have deepened my understanding of both the creative process and human resilience.
My passion for art making began early and has taken me across continents. While living in France, I had the opportunity to study at an art school, immersing myself in traditional and contemporary artistic practices. This foundation in art, combined with my love for creating alongside others—whether clients, family, or friends—has shown me time and again how art can bridge differences, foster connection, and facilitate healing in ways that words alone cannot.
Throughout my clinical training, I have had the privilege of working with individuals across various settings and circumstances, each teaching me invaluable lessons about the power of therapeutic connection. My specialized experience includes working with children and families affected by sexual trauma, utilizing trauma-focused CBT and art therapy approaches. I have provided domestic violence counseling to both adults and children, and worked with high-acuity adolescents in an inpatient psychiatric setting. Additionally, I spent two years supporting adults with neurodevelopmental conditions in a residential care environment, where I witnessed firsthand the importance of person-centered, compassionate care.
My art therapy practice has flourished both internationally and here in the United States, allowing me to witness how creativity transcends cultural boundaries while respecting the unique contexts in which healing occurs. Whether working in clinical settings overseas or community-based programs at home, I have seen how art can become a universal language for processing experiences and fostering growth.
These professional experiences have been complemented by rich personal learning opportunities. As a parent to two children—one neurotypical and one with special needs—I understand that what brings joy, and what challenges families, is unique to their experience. My own therapeutic journey has given me deep appreciation for the courage it takes to seek support and engage in personal growth.
Having lived and worked internationally in Africa, Mesoamerica, South America, and Europe, I bring a global perspective to my practice that honors diverse cultural experiences and worldviews. These varied life experiences, combined with my formal clinical training and lifelong dedication to art making, have shaped my approach as a therapist who believes deeply in the transformative power of creativity and authentic human connection.
I am committed to creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can explore, heal, and discover their own inner wisdom through both the therapeutic process and the joy of artistic expression. Whether we're working with paint, clay, collage, or any other medium, I believe that making art together creates unique opportunities for insight, growth, and healing.
